New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) would offer full-time PhD in Journalism and Mass Communication, Master’s in Journalism and Mass Communication and Master’s in Electronic Media Production and Management from the academic year 2009.
IGNOU has introduced these programmes due to the ever-increasing demand for Journalism and Mass Communication courses among the students. Journalism now touches every aspect of our lives like health, society, environment, etc. So, it has become very essential to have able and properly trained individuals in this sector. The courses will be offered by IGNOU’s recently established School of Journalism and New Media Studies (SOJNMS) in face-to-face mode.
As per the sources, for the Master’s in Electronic Media, the university will offer hands-on training as well through IGNOU’S fulltime TV and radio channels under the aegis of Electronic Media Production Centre (EMPC). There would be a natural flow of traffic between the SOJNMS and EMPC. Students would get the opportunity to work in well-equipped studios and production rooms and those employed at EPMC will serve as experienced faculty.
IGNOU would also offer certificate programmes in creative media arts for those who have completed class XII. The programmes are aimed at training skilled manpower in digital sound and digital production. For this, IGNOU has collaborated with the School of Audio Engineering, LV Prasad Studio in Chennai, Jamia Millia Islamia University, and Satyajit Ray’s Production House, to impart hands-on training.
IGNOU will conduct an entrance exam on July 19 for admission into Master’s programme followed by an interview on July 31/August 1. Students with a bachelor’s degree in any course with a minimum of 55% are eligible to apply. For more details about the programme and adsmission visit the website: www.ignou.ac.in
