IGNOU Acknowledges DU Distance Courses

New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has given its nod to the acknowledgement for the programmes offered by University of Delhi (DU) through distance mode. IGNOU’s decision has finally put an end to the brawl between it and DU, over the matter of recognition of correspondence courses.

IGNOU’s decision came as a great reprieve to more than 50 students who had qualified the entrance examination for government jobs, but were not issued appointment letters by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), on the ground that their degree was not recognized, prompting the DU to approach the court.

As per sources, in its petition, DU sought directions to the Centre, IGNOU and SSC to recognize its degrees that are awarded through the distance education programme. Justice Siddharth Mirdul, after admitting IGNOU’S contention, directed the SSC to take instant action for issuing appointment letters to these candidates.
