New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) would offer 14 new postgraduate on-campus programs from the upcoming session this July. V N Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-chancellor, IGNOU said that the courses selected were of specialized type and would require face-to-face interaction. The programs would be offered on a full-time basis on IGNOU’S campus at Maidan Garhi (near Sainik Farms). However, Pillai pointed out that IGNOU would strictly maintain its identity of an institution for distance learning.
The full-time basis proposed programs include Master’s in Electronic Media Production and Management, Labour and Development, Translation Studies; M Sc in Actuarial Science and Chemistry; M Tech in Airport Infrastructure Engineering; Integrated M Sc and PhD in Physics and Astrophysics. These are innovative courses developed in response to increasing demand.
Even though some students would be able to attend classes on campus, material would also be prepared for those who want to pursue these courses through the distance learning mode. Moreover, the university plans to webcast and broadcast the classroom lectures for those who would opt for the distance mode. Students opting for on-campus training would have to undergo a rigorous selection procedure. Approximately 20 candidates would be selected for every program with reservation for SC/ST and OBC candidates. No changes in the fee structure of the program, it would be similar to what is charged in any other central or state university. Further, it is decided that scholarships would also be awarded to the deserving candidates.
