Mumbai: Good news for the students of Maharashtra. Various institutes and universities in the state are introducing programs in Forensic Sciences, Computer Science, Mass Media in Marathi and Jewellery Design and Manufacturing. With the changing trend, institutes as well as universities are set to offer courses in the emerging fields.
Institute of Science, Fort, affiliated under the Mumbai University, would be offering B Sc course in Forensic Sciences. The initial intake for each class would be 40 students, but the course would grow with time. In fact, there are plans to set up an independent institute for Forensic Studies, a first of its kind in Maharashtra. Moreover, colleges across the state have also come up with a five-year integrated M Sc course in Computer Science, from this year.
Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM) is the most popular course offered under Mumbai University and it is all set to widen its sphere with a Marathi version. Further, the English version would incorporate new topics, such as history of Maharashtra and socio-political problems of the state, to acquaint students with local issues. The female students can appear at a common entrance test for a first of its kind course, B Sc in Jewellery Design and Manufacturing, conducted by SNDT University. The entrance is scheduled to be conducted on June 7.
Higher and Technical Education Department has received proposals from the University of Mumbai to start 56 new colleges in the Mumbai region. The proposal was made keeping in mind the spurt in new courses, which could only be supplemented by a rise in the number of colleges. To deal with it, the department had set up a task force, so as to ensure speedy approval of the proposals of new colleges.
