Lucknow: Common Aptitude Test in English (CATE) conducted by the Delhi University (DU) is in trouble, with candidates allegedly complaining that it had been designed to favor students of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). CATE 2010 was conducted on June 9, 2010. It was conducted for admission into DU’s highly sought after English (Honors) course.
A.P. Sinha, a Lucknow-based lawyer, has filed a Right to Information (RTI) query to access information regarding the number of CBSE students that appeared for the test. He also asked in his RTI application whether any of the students that appeared for the test were related to members of the CATE convener committee.
As per sources, the RTI application was filed after many students had complained that the CATE entrance test had not provided an equal ground for students of boards other than CBSE. In addition, parents of students too, raised their voice, stating that a poem from the CBSE Class XII English syllabus had been included in the question paper. They said that it was an advantage for CBSE students who had already studied the poem for their Class XII boards.
