CM Asks DTU Management to End the Impasse Within Two Days

New Delhi: Delhi Technical University’s (DTU’s) management has been asked to resolve the ongoing impasses within two days. In a meeting, which was chaired by Chief Minister (CM) Sheila Dikshit and attended by Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta, Principal Secretary to CM P K Tripathi, DTU Vice-Chancellor (VC) P B Sharma and Director of Higher Education was held on Wednesday i.e. March 17, 2010, the DTU’s management was asked to resolve the issue within the next two days.

In the meantime, DTU decided to reschedule the ongoing mid-semester examination from March 29. The university also decided to allow the 80-odd students who appeared for the exam to reappear. However, the agitating students are still sticking to their demands for the removal of DTU Vice-chancellor P B Sharma and revoking the conversion of Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) to DTU.

As per sources, a press statement by the DTU, after negotiations with the students on Tuesday, stated that a conversation took place with student representatives and the DTU authorities and Delhi government. It was resolved that the mid-semester exams will be rescheduled from an early date. The student representatives wished that the normal academic activities should resume.

But students’ union President Ravi Sekhar said that they all are still on strike and if there is no development on their demands by March 29, there will be further boycott of the exams. Meanwhile, a group of students met Delhi University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Deepak Pental and presented their representation and sought support from DU.
