New Delhi: The ongoing tussle over implementation of semester system in Delhi University (DU) has come to an end. Classes in DU campus has commenced in semester mode. As per sources, from Tuesday i.e. November 16, 2010, teachers in 31 colleges of DU, offering Science courses, have started teaching in the semester mode.
Further, sources told that the first-year Science students also attend the classes with full enthusiasm. Mr. S K Garg, President of Principals’ Association and Principal, Deen Dayal Upadhyay College said that they are relieved that the academic process can now be initiated smoothly. Further, he added that now they have to compensate the time lost and help the students prepare for their exams.
Bhim Sen Singh, Principal, Kirori Mal College (KMC) said that the staff council has given it in writing that they are going to teach in semester mode, which is a positive move for the academic calendar. Moreover, he told that on the issue if disbursing the salaries of the teachers, he will act as per the directives of Chairman of the college governing body.
In addition, Mr. Singh said that the decision has come as a blessing to the new Vice-Chancellor and he hope the university will progress at a faster pace under his leadership. As per sources, students also seem to be confident that their teachers would be able to complete the syllabus by January.
Shweta Sethia, a first-year B Sc student of KMC said that if the teachers wish they can complete the syllabus by January and exams can be conducted. Gaurav Dahiya, another first-year student of Chemistry, said that semester system is best for them.
