New Delhi: From Thursday onwards i.e. from May 20, 2010, Delhi University’s (DU’s) Department of English, started the sale of forms for the Common Aptitude Test in English (CATE), which is scheduled to be held on June 9. Last date of sale of the application form is May 31, 2010. CATE 2010 is conducted for admission into DU’s most sought after B.A. English (Honors) programme, offered in the upcoming session 2010. Students with a minimum of 60% aggregate and 60% in English are eligible to apply for the course.
As per sources, nearly 500 forms were sold at 17 centres on the first day though the department expects the sale to pick up after the CBSE results are out. Students with a minimum of 60% aggregate and 60% in English can apply for this course. Seventeen colleges, including Hindu, IP College for Women, Miranda House, Lady Shri Ram College, Kamala Nehru College, will admit students in BA (honours) English through CATE, this year.
Professor Sumanyu Satpathy, Head, Department of English, has said that most students buying CATE forms on the first day were from the ISC Board. The form sale will probably increase from Monday after the CBSE students known their marks. This year the University has published nearly 15,000 forms, whereas the total number of seats in 17 colleges is roughly 500.
Furthermore, Mr Satpathy mentioned that the test will have two parts. Only those answer scripts, which meet a certain cut-off in the objective-type questions, will be evaluated further while eliminating the rest. However, there will be no elimination for the OBC candidates.
