New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has commenced Master of Arts (MA) programme in Labour and Development. The new programme is an on-campus and full-time programme. On Friday i.e. October 15, 2010, a Spokesperson for IGNOU said in a statement that the MA in Labour and Development programme will be offered by the University's School of Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Studies.
As per sources, the new programme is first of its kind in the country. Further, sources told that the programme will look at the process of development through a completely new perspective that of the labour. In addition, sources told that the programme will bring essential aspects of labour in the development process, to the view. Sources added that it provides thorough understanding of labour in the process with special reference to India and developing countries.
Moreover, the Spokesperson from IGNOU added that the course work will help the students comprehend theoretical, conceptual, legal and empirical issues pertaining to labour. Furthermore, spokesperson said that it covers the changing dimensions and profiles of labour and employment in India in the context of globalization.
