New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University has constituted a panel comprising of 10 members to prepare its 12th plan, which will be implemented from 2012. The committee, which for the first time met on June 8, has been directed to look for new and innovative courses that the university can launch. Also, the panel has been asked to chalk out a plan to consolidate the existing infrastructure.
As per sources, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has written to universities asking them about their requirements at the end on a plan period. Jamia’s 11th plan comes to an end in 2012. Moreover, the vice chancellor, registrar and heads of different centres and departments are among the members of 12th Plan Task Force Committee. According to sources, the committee would also look for ways to introduce BTech and MTech courses, related to energy sector in Jamia.
Simi Malhotra, Media Coordinator at Jamia, has said that Jamia still have around two years to go, before the current plan expires. But by starting early, the University will be able to look into various issues in detail. She also added that by the time they need to write to UGC, they will have enough brainstorming sessions and ideas.
Najeeb Jung, Vice chancellor of Jamia, who is currently in US, has said that he has been invited to deliver a set of lectures. He added that his primary aim is to brainstorm with academicians here and engage them for future collaboration that would benefit Jamia. In the 12th plan, the University will like to offer a lot of new courses, which will enhance career prospects of the students.
