New Delhi: This year, on the first day of admissions at some esteemed colleges of north campus like Hindu College and Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) witnessed the enrollment of nearly 75% of the candidates who happened to be girls.
As per sources, Hindu College offered seats to 205 aspirants out of which 203 confirmed their admissions by depositing the fees. Interestingly, of the total number of students who took admissions 146 were girls. Vinay Kumar Srivastava, principal, Hindu College, said that they have noticed that the number of girl candidates were significantly high in the day. He also added that after analyzing the data, the numbers were found to be tremendously tilting towards girls.
At Hindu College girl candidates were equally distributed across BCom (H), chemistry (H), sociology (H) and economics (H) among others Though, BCom (H) and economics (H) were the most sought after courses. Sources informed that among the currently enrolled students at Hindu College the percentage of girls stood upto 49.28%.
Furthermore, at SRCC of the total 51 admissions in economics (H) course, 39 were girls. In case of the popular BCom (H) course the college admitted 150 girls out of the total 237 who were admitted on the first day. Also, the percentage of girls has crossed 65% this year as against around 55% in 2010 for BCom (Honours) course. In economics (honours) the number has exceeded the 75% mark.
