IGNOU to Set Up Center for Sindhi Language and Culture

New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is all set for establishing a centre for Sindhi Language and Culture. The announcement was made by an IGNOU official on Tuesday i.e. on August 23, 2011.
 
The spokesperson said that the centre will be functional from this academic year. The center is being set up as per suggestion of the human resource ministry. The spokesperson added that full-time, part-time, distance education and on-line courses will be available to in order to cater to the different categories of learners.
 
IGNOU Vice Chancellor (VC), V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai informed that, initially, the center will offer undergraduate courses with various components like spoken language, literary language, morphology and grammar. He said that, later, diploma programmes will also be developed followed by masters and PhD programmes.
 
According to IGNOU, the main aim of the setting up of the centre is to make the youth conscious of Sindhi literary and cultural heritage through seminars and meetings with experts. Sindhi is one of the major literary languages of India, recognized in the eighth schedule of the constitution.
