IIM-Kozhikode Annual Fest ‘Backwaters-2011’ Kick Starts from Nov 18

New Delhi: The two-day annual fest of Indian Institute of Management – Kozhikode (IIM - Kozhikode) titled ‘Backwaters-2011’ is scheduled to be held from November 18, 2011. The last year's festival witnessed participation from all premier B-schools across the country with the prize money extending Rs 10 lakh. With new events planned and a bigger prize money pool, the institute is expecting a larger participation in this year's event.

As per sources, the annual fest features the flagship event of business plan and new venture contest, titled ‘White Knight'. However, this year, it will focus on ‘People Planet Profit', the triple bottom line for business. According to the media cell of IIM-K, the implication of the triple bottom line will be brought to the forefront through its application in all flagship as well as domain events carried out across the finance, marketing, operations, strategy, systems, and HR verticals.

The event will incorporate monitoring and controlling the carbon footprint which will be another dominant theme. Also, the festival will have a series of activities to emphasize the ways to reduce the damage caused by the phenomenon to the environment. Besides, another attraction will be the annual leadership and speaker conclave, styled ‘Horizon'. Furthermore, this year's event will bring together leaders from various walks of life with the spotlight on well-known personalities who incorporated the triple bottom line in their paths towards success.

Moreover, social entrepreneurs, mass movement proponents, energy activists, policy makers, and industry big shots will share their success stories, while reminding the next generation managers to balance the growth strategies by factoring in concerns about the sustainability of business practices. The festival will also witness the first-of-its kind ‘Corporate Dinner' which will serve as an opportunity for business personalities in the area to interact and network with the IIM-Kozhikode community. Another attraction of the event is ‘Shiksha', an interface programme for management schools and under-graduate institutes in the region.
