IIT-R Collaborates with DRDO to Develop Low Cost Laptops

The Indian Institute of Technology -Rajasthan (IIT-R) collaborates with Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO), in order to design reasonable priced laptops. It is anticipated that the laptops are going to hit the market by December this year.
 
According to the information by officials in the Ministry of Defence, 'Anurag', Hyderabad-based defence laboratory, has been assigned with the task of developing reasonably priced laptops along with its own secured operating system. After the launch of Simputer and various other reasonably priced low-cost PCs and laptop versions available in the market, the DRDO is planning to get its own version ready by December.
 
Furthermore, sources informed that 'Anurag' had also developed the 32-bit micro-processor namely 'Anupama', the parallel processor-based super computer. In addtion, it has developed 'Anamica', which is medical imaging software. Officials emphasized on the point that the project will help the Human Resources Development (HRD) Ministry's proposal 'One Laptop Per Child India', which aims to provide $100 laptops to the poor. The HRD Ministry's proposal aims at making the poor accessible to computer literacy and information technology.
