DU Lowers Minimum Eligibility Criteria for Reserved Candidates

New Delhi: Delhi University (DU), has lowered the minimum eligibility criteria for reserved candidates, for three non-technical professional undergraduate courses. The courses offered are Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS), Bachelor of Financial Investment and Analysis (BFIA) and BA (H) Business Economics (BBE).

As per sources, the modification has been made from this year i.e. 2012 onwards, so that aspiring students can opt for them from this session. The admission process for the courses is to kick start from April 5, 2012. One of the major changes to be brought in is 10% relaxation to the OBC candidates from the eligibility criteria of general category students.

Moreover, the University has also decided not to convert any reserved category seat into a general seat. Sources informed that admissions for this year will be coordinated by SGTB Khalsa College. Online registration will start on April 5 and carry on till May 5. The entrance test (for admission) will be held on June 3 across four cities Delhi, Lucknow, Chandigarh and Kolkata.

Unlike last year, when the minimum eligibility criteria for general and OBC candidates were the same, OBC candidates are now offered a 10% relaxation. For OBC candidates, the minimum aggregate for admission required in best of four subjects is 54% as against 60% for general candidates.

Explaining about the admission process and changes, Chief Admission Coordinator and Principal of Khalsa College, Jaswinder Singh, said that for SC / ST candidates, a pass in the qualifying exams (Class XII) is the eligibility criteria this year instead of last year's 55%. However, apart from compulsory subjects like English and Mathematics, two other academic subjects will also be taken into account for all aspirants.
