IGNOU Introduces India’s First Online Programme in Chinese Language

New Delhi: School of Foreign Language (SOFL), Indira Gandhi Naitonal Open University (IGNOU) has announced the launch of online virtual programme in Chinese language on October 14, 2011. The online Chinese programme was launched in a pact with two educational institutions, namely, Chinese Institute of Chennai and Shri Mahavira Jaina Vidyalaya Education Foundation, Gujarat. This is the first and one-of-a-kind programme in India initiated by IGNOU to allow aspiring candidates learn Chinese language through online virtual classroom programme. The programme aims at reaching the learners throughout India through the Internet mode.
 

According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by IGNOU and the two institutions, they will offer six-month certificate and twelve-month diploma programmes in online Chinese language and culture. These courses will be offered through both online virtual class method and face-to-face at the two institutes, though under the supervision of SOFL, IGNOU. Prof. G. Chaudhuri, programme coordinator and Director of SOFL, IGNOU, stated that the main motive behind launching the virtual classroom programme is to reach the prospective learners across India. He further added that the medium to be used for conducting the programme will be e-Gyankosh of IGNOU, different from the conventional online programmes offered by IGNOU. Besides, this conduit will let the learners and teachers interact with one another and learn virtually, similar to the traditional teaching-learning method.
