Delhi: Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI) University won the last league match of North Zone Inter-Varsity Hockey (Men) Tournament 2010-11 played on January 4, 2011 at 2.00 pm. Jamia won its match against Panjab University, Chandigarh with a solitary field goal scored by Mr. Devi Prasan of Jamia Hockey Team.
According to the press release issued by the University, the prize distribution ceremony was held after the last match in the Hockey Ground of Faculty of Education. Mr. Zafar Iqbal, former Hockey Olympian and Arjuna Awardee, was the Chief Guest of the programme. Prof. S.M. Rashid, Pro Vice-Chancellor, JMI presided over the ceremony. The final standing of the teams are as follows: Jamia Millia Islamia stands on First Position, Kurukshetra University on Second Position, GND University on Third Position and Panjab University, Chandigarh on Fourth position.
This year, Jamia Millia Islamia had hosted North Zone Inter-Varsity Hockey (Men) Tournament from December 28, 2010 till January 4, 2011. Total of 27 Universities from North Zone had participated in the Tournament. All the Universities were divided into four pools viz. A, B, C & D. A total 29 matches were played out. Out of these, 23 were played at the knock-out stage and 6 were played at the league level.
