DTU Re-Exams Scheduled From June 21

New Delhi: On Monday i.e. June 14, 2010, Delhi Technological University (DTU) issued a notice declaring that the mid-semester examinations for the second, fourth and fifth semesters of BE and B. Tech courses would commence on June 21, 2010. DTU has also mentioned that students who fail to appear for the examinations would lose their 20 marks.

Due to the ongoing scuffle between DTU and the Delhi University (DU), the exams that were to be held in March 2010 had been cancelled twice. DTU earlier had been called the Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) and was a part of DU.

As per sources, the rescheduling of the examinations was announced after DU wrote a letter to DTU Vice Chancellor P.B. Sharma to conduct the examinations by June 14. DU stated that except for the 250 first year students at DTU, others in the college were still a part of Delhi University. Students studying at DTU are upset because of the conflict over the new examination schedule, as most of them do their summer training/internships during this period and would not be able to appear for the exams.

In his reply to the letter by DU, the DTU Vice Chancellor wrote that conducting the same examinations for the third time would be a mockery of the semester examination system. He also added that he had informed the concerned authorities at DU that students at DTU studying BE courses would be working on their summer internships during the vacations and that the practical examinations for some courses would be over by June 18. He said that even then, the DU dean scheduled their examinations from June 14.
