New Delhi: The parents of the students of Delhi Technological University (DTU), formerly Delhi College of Engineering (DCE), are invited for a meeting to be held on April 3, 2010, at 11 am in the University auditorium. It is an attempt to acquaint the parents about the factual position in respect of various issues being raised by the agitating students and clear the doubts, if any.
As per sources, apart from the university authorities, eminent members of the Board of Management of DTU, including Prof. K.L. Chopra, Former Director, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, Prof. D.V. Singh, Former Vice Chancellor, Roorkee University and Dr. R.S. Nigam, former Dean, Delhi School of Economics, will also be present during the meeting with the parents.
During the meeting, the misconceptions regarding the upgradation of DCE into DTU resulting into alleged loss of repute, ill-effect on placements and the academic and administrative structures for efficient management of University affairs will be discussed in detail. Further, the parents will also be informed about the adverse affect of the ongoing agitation on the careers and future of their wards. Their views and grievances, if any, will also be discussed on the occasion.
Further, despite promising the government of withdrawing the agitation earlier, the students continue to boycott their exams and disrespect the academic calendar. Yesterday, the mid-semester exams of final year (VIIIth semester) students have completed with almost 100% attendance (barring two courses) and 641 students appeared in the exam. However, only 21 students of Ist and IIIrd year and 13 students of IInd year appeared in the examinations.
