DTU Prolonged Impasse Finally Ends Today

New Delhi: Finally, the month long impasse of Delhi Technological University (DTU) concludes today. DTU students have at last ended the protest, bringing back normalcy to the campus.

According to the statement of Nitin Baraiya, a student and placement coordinator at DTU, the discussion with the newly appointed registrar and the student representatives took place in detail. Only after that, they have decided to end their protest on the assurance that the demands to meet the academic, administrative growth and improvement in quality of education are met. He also said that students are grateful to the state government for providing the post of registrar on the campus.

Further, he added that as the government has taken steps to meet their demands, so they have decided to end the protest, but they do plan to carry out a symbolic protest for the central character of DCE. As per sources, the impasse was even joined by the parents of the agitating students, who are now scheduled to meet the Chief Minister requesting her to meet the demands today i.e. on April 8, 2010.

DTU students carried on the protest for almost a month against the conversion of Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) to DTU. On the pretext that the change in status of the premier engineering institution of the country from that of a central to state university would hamper the career prospects of students. It is due to this reason that the students even boycotted their examinations seeking the intervention of the government, which also refused to address their demands.
