IGNOU Introduces Certificate Programme in Anti-Human Trafficking

New Delhi: On Friday i.e. December 10, 2010, an official said that the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has introduced a Certificate programme in Anti-Human Trafficking. Further, the official told that the programme has been launched in partnership with the Home Ministry.
 
As per sources, the programme aims at increasing the process of sensitization, awareness and training of law enforcement officials and other stake-holders like prosecutors, government departments and NGOs. P Chidambaram, Union Home Minister said that those in the police forces should mandatory enroll in the course. Police forces should include more women officers who can serve as anti-human trafficking officers some time in their career, he added.
 
Rajashekharan Pillai, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU, said that it was a unique programme to be launched on the Human Rights Day. In addition, he said that a course like this will substantially help in furthering and complementing the MHA's (Ministry of Home Affairs') efforts on training and competence building in the area of anti-human trafficking.
