New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched a new website for the ease of its students. On Sunday i.e. October 17, 2010, a spokesperson from IGNOU informed that V N Rajasekharan Pillai, University Vice-Chancellor, has launched the new website. Further, the spokesperson said that the new website is designed by Indo Asian News Service. The website is more student-friendly and interactive, he added.
As per sources, the new IGNOU website is divided into three main gateways. The gateways are named as ‘About IGNOU’, ‘Student Zone’ and ‘Bulletin Board’. Further, sources told that flexibility for updating content is one of the features of the website.
Moreover, IGNOU Spokesperson said that respective schools of IGNOU will be responsible for updating their content on the website. In addition, he told that this is made possible through the use of the advanced content management system used in the new website that is the ‘Drupal Content Management’ system.
IGNOU Pro Vice-Chancellor S Srivathsan said that the new IGNOU website has the capability of a portal, not just a website. He sees a future where the course materials and other processes can be linked to IGNOU services like Student Registration Division. They are building a Convergence task force to make this happen. As per sources, the university is also trying to build a library to promote an online library culture.
