Delhi University (DU) has decided to conduct a one-day internship programme for its undergraduate students. Students will get an opportunity to spend their entire day at the vice-chancellor’s office. Sources informed that the idea of the internship is actually based on an objective of describing the students the administrative system and it’s functioning, and thus, make it completely transparent.
JM Khurana, Dean, Students’ Welfare, has informed that these internships are likely to commence from September onwards. According to the plan, every week, one student from any DU college will be chosen for the internship and she/he would then spend the entire day at the VC’s office, handling his e-mails, taking rounds of the university, etc. He said that this one-day internship, besides helping students to learn while assisting the VC, will also allow them to advise whenever they feel necessary.
Furthermore, he mentioned the University has not finalized the criterion for student selection yet. Presently, they are still busy with the admissions, which will go on till August 31. In addition, he said that accordingly, they will let the colleges know about it so that students can apply through their respective colleges. Lastly, he said that once students get selected at their college level, the students’ welfare deans will do the final selection of the candidates, who will then spend a day at the VC’s office. These students can be from first, second or the third year.
