More than 4.5 lakh students across the nation will take up the IIT-JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) 2011, which is scheduled to be held in April 10, 2011.

IIT JEE 2011: Over 4.5 Lakh Aspirants

Kanpur: This year, more than 4.5 lakh students across the nation will take up the IIT-JEE (Joint Entrance Examination), which is scheduled to be held in April 10, 2011.

As per sources, the IIT JEE 2011 will be held at 1,051 centres across the country in which a total of 4,85,917 candidates will appear. According to an official release IIT-Kanpur has been given the responsibility to conduct the examination across the country, this year. As per sources, there has been a raise in the number of female candidates this year with 28 % girls set to write the test as compared 24 % last year. While 3,71,975 male candidates will take the test, a total of 1,13,942 female candidates will appear in the examination.

In addition, the sources informed that this year the maximum number of female candidates totalling 20,546 belong to the Madras zone, while least number of female candidates totalling 10,555 come from the Guwahati zone. Total of 185 centres, the maximum, this year have been allotted to the candidates of the Mumbai zone with only 117 centres allotted to the Guwahati zone, the least this year.

While, IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras have been allotted a total of 173 and 156 centres, IIT Delhi and Roorkee have been allotted 142 and 132 centres respectively. According a statement released by IIT Director Prof Sanjay Govind Dhande no changes have been made to the question paper pattern, course curriculum, examination pattern and verification process. Meanwhile, a high level meeting attended by directors and officials of various IITs was held at IIT Kanpur to take stock of the examination process.
