IITs Waive Entrance Test Fee for Girls from 2012

New Delhi: Joint Admission Board (JAB) of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) has declared to waive entrance test fee for girl candidates from next year i.e. 2012 onwards. The decision was announced by the Board recently.

As per the sources, this step has been taken by the organization to encourage girls to appear in the IITs' prestigious Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). Girls will not have to pay any application fee from next year, while the application fee for boys would be increased to Rs 1800 which was earlier Rs 1000.

Some of the other changes taking place in the next session 2012 are that applicants would be allowed to carry a copy of the Optic Response Sheet on which answers are inscribed. Also, answers can be circled by pen, instead of pencil as is being done now. In 2012, JEE would be conducted by IIT Delhi.

IIT-JEE is a common entrance examination conducted in order to select and shortlist eligible candidates (Indian as well as Foreign nationals) for admission into the Undergraduate (UG) engineering programmes, offered by all the 15 IITs across the country.
