Jamia Comes Up With New Reservation Criteria

New Delhi: The Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University has issued new reservation guidelines. As per the new guidelines, the University will allot 50% of seats to be reserved for Muslim applicants, which will be applicable from the academic session 2011-12.
 
According to the new rules issued, 30 % of total seats in each programme will be reserved for Muslim applicants, 10 % for Muslim women applicants and 10 % for Other Backward Classes and Scheduled Tribes, as under the Central government list.
 
Moreover, seats reserved for female, OBC and ST candidates that will be left vacant will automatically get transferred to general Muslim applicants. Besides, 3 % of the seats will be reserved for physically challenged applicants according to the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995.
 
In addition, those candidates falling under the category of persons with disabilities will be given a relaxation to the extent of 5 % marks in the qualifying examination. However, only those candidates suffering from not less than 40% of a physical disability, certified by a competent medical authority, will be offered admission under this category.
 
Furthermore, the maximum time period allotted to pass a course will be two years for physically challenged candidates, which may be extended by a year under special circumstances. Besides, the new guidelines have also allotted 5 % of the seats in all undergraduate and diploma courses to be allotted to students of the university who have passed their qualifying examinations from Jamia schools and have been on the rolls for five successive years.
