Russian Language Day Celebrations at IGNOU

New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has celebrated Russian Language Day. The University’s School of Foreign Languages (SOFL) was the venue for the special seminar, which was conducted to commemorate the “Russian Language Day”. The celebrations coincided with the 212th birth anniversary of the Great Russian writer Alexander Pushkin.

 
The seminar witnessed the presence of eminent guests, including Mr. Evgeny Kravchenko, Second Secretary, Embassy of The Russian Federation, New Delhi; Prof Sankar Basu, Former Dean, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Mr. Ajoy Karnati of JNU.  Professor Shivaji Bhaskar of SOFL told sources yesterday i.e. June 13, 2011, that a screening of a Russian film was conducted after the seminar.
 
Established in 2007 SOFL (IGNOU), offers various foreign language programmes at PhD, Diploma and Certificate level, through regular as well as distance mode. The School also conducts online Certificate course in Spanish Language. Apart from this, SOFL IGNOU is planning to introduce new programmes that include Certificate in Russian Language and MA in French. Apart from the seminar to celebrate Russian Language Day, the School has also conducted seminars and workshops in the past, which include International Translation Workshop (from 31st August to 5th September, 2009) and International Translation Workshop (from 8th -13th March, 2010).
