DU to Implement Semester System for Arts & Commerce Courses

New Delhi: Delhi University (DU) has now planned to implement semester system for Arts and Commerce courses. Recently, the university had implemented the same for 13 Undergraduate (UG) Science courses. As per sources, the semester system for Arts and Science courses will be implemented by the next academic year. However, no official communication has been made by the DU’s Vice Chancellor in this regard.
 
Further, sources informed that the Commerce and English departments have already started taking steps to execute the semester system in their departments. Syllabus for commerce programmes for executing the semester system had been prepared, but the university has decided to implement the semester system from the session 2011-2012.
 
In addition, sources told that a letter had been sent by the administration to all colleges asking them to send their representatives for a preliminary meeting. The meeting will be held in January 2011, sources added. The English department has given its assurance to create the new syllabus, for implementing the semester system, within next three months.
 
Sumanyu Sathpathy, Head of DU's English Department said that he has sent a letter to all colleges to summon a meeting for English teachers and to come up with suggestions that will be discussed at a meeting. They will hold this meeting in either the first or second week of January, he added.
