New IIMs Uncertain on Selection Procedure

New Delhi: Year 2010 was due to view an upsurge of new Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) in the country. However, the hitch is that all the new IIMs are still undecided on the selection procedure for their session commencing from 2010.

According to an IIM - Bangalore official, just ahead of the next admission season, IIM-Bangalore has gone the Ahmedabad way. The Bangalore B-school has done away with group discussion and expects candidates to be prepared for essay writing, something that IIM - Ahmedabad started in 2007. Students would be given 30 minutes to write on a topic that will typically reflect current political, economic and business affairs, though other topics such as sports and ones that require more creative thinking can also be included.

IIM-Ahmedabad didn’t divulge detailed information regarding the selection process last year. As per sources, in IIM-Calcutta, the selection process is likely to remain unchanged. The new IIMs expected to start this academic year are yet to take any decision on the selection procedure.
