IGNOU Introduces HIV and Dialysis Medicine Course

New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has introduced Postgraduate Diploma in HIV medicine and Post Doctoral Certificate in Dialysis Medicine programme.
 
Both the newly launched course will be offered at IGNOU's School of Health Sciences (SOHS) in association with National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) and Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Sources have informed that the certificate programme will be launched in 15 tertiary care hospitals/programme study centres across the nation, which includes AIIMS, Sir Ganga Ram hospital and Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.
 
According to a statement issued by IGNOU spokesperson due to the severe shortage of qualified medical experts in dialysis medicine/kidney diseases, most of the patients are not diagnosed in time and suffer irreversible kidney damage. He also With a view to bridge this gap, SOHS has developed a one-year post doctoral certificate programme in dialysis medicine for physicians and pediatricians with Doctor of Medicine (MD)/Diplomate of National Board (DNB)) qualification in collaboration with the Directorate General of Health Services.
 
Furthermore, the statement informed that the diploma programme in HIV medicine is approved by the National AIDS Control Board, which intends to imbibe complete knowledge on basics of HIV and skills to manage all complications as well as opportunistic infections due to HIV/AIDS. It also wants to train the professional with technique to handle emergencies and its complications and take bedside decisions for management whenever required.
