60 Teams Participate in IGNOU School Quiz Contest

Kochi: On Tuesday i.e. November 23, 2010, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) organized a school quiz show called Ignite. 60 teams from Kochi participated in the event. V N Rajsekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU said that the university was promoting school education in its silver jubilee year, with outreach events like a science Olympiad and special awards.
 
K S Divakaran Nair, IGNOU Kochi Regional Director said that Ignite, the quiz show, was organized to increase awareness about distance learning method among school students. Further, he added that the idea of such events is to ignite students' interest in higher education and make them aware of the open and distance learning system.
 
As per sources, the Open University has already organized Ignite in Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati and Bangalore. Further, sources told that IGNOU is planning to conduct these contests in other cities also, before a grand finale of the winning teams, to be held in Delhi. As per sources, the teams first participated in a written elimination round after which, selection of six teams was made for the final round.
 
Furthermore, sources told that Tarun Uday and S Sathyawageeswar of Bhavan's Vidya Mandir, Girinagar, bagged the winner's trophy. Aditya Chandralal and Varun Prasad of Chinmaya Vidyalaya's were become the runners-up of the contest. In addition to the contest, an exhibition and a flash presentation were also organized in order to make the students aware of various programmes being offered by IGNOU.
