New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has been identified by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) as among the premium agencies for supervising the five pan-India projects for placement linked skill development programmes, under the Swarnjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojna (SGSY).
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) provides training in the areas of telecommunications, business process outsourcing (BPO) and security. There are also two project implementing agencies engaged in implementing the project, all over India.
Under the scheme, training will be provided to 45000 rural BPO youths and minimum 75% will be employed in the relevant sector. Besides, the programme will be imparted in 20 states, including Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and West Bengal.
Furthermore, the scheme is for the enrollment of 10,219 aspirants from the rural areas of these states. They will be trained and awarded certification by IGNOU. Apart from that, total 7,269 persons have been employed with guaranteed minimum wages, PF, ESI and other social security benefits.
Under the scheme, 50% of the total BPL enrollments are from SC/ST categories (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes), while 15% BPL aspirants are from minority sections.
