New Delhi: The Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University will launch a new programme namely M.Phil programme in European and Latin American studies. On Wednesday i.e. May 18, 2011 an official of the university made the announcement regarding the launch of the course.
Jamia has decided to offer the course after observing the growing relations between India and Latin America and also the existing ties with Europe. The official has said that the programme in European studies deals with contemporary and historical features of European culture, which focuses on study of specific aspects of European societies, their media, literature and culture.
It is anticipated that the Latin American programme will facilitate students to work on contemporary themes, which in turn would help in the development of a body of research in India on issues relating to Latin America and the Caribbean. He also added that it would build on a foundation of language, literature, history, and cultural studies.
Furthermore, the official also added that students with a background in humanities and languages and social sciences, desirous of pursuing research in the broad area of literary and cultural studies can apply.
